What to write about me??. . . . I love cozy spaces. For me those spaces have always been filled with nooks and crannies, books, and oddities. As I have gotten older and walked through this life Steve and I have, I’ve learned to embraced the things that bring me joy and to create them where I can. This philosophy has come in many forms over the years. As a young military wife, it was obsessively making all my own cleaning products and thinking I am a chemist and can make soap (while Steve is cringing that I’m going to blow up the kitchen), bubbling all different flavors of kombucha (while Steve looked at me like I’m going to poison everyone), making my own dresses because they don’t sell pettiepants that are awesome (Steve looking at me skeptically because they don’t make pettiepants anymore for a reason). Move forward with me in my pettiepants, Tess of the D’Urbervilles scarf, some homebrew in my hand, and Steve retired from the military. We can do cool things while not moving every two years! Like open a book store and be as weird as we want:-)

That's our granddaughter, Elloise:-) the most adorable little person ever.

Throughout my life I’ve had an incredible diversity of experiences that have shaped how I see and interact with the world. In my time in the military I had jobs ranging from detecting and protecting soldiers from nuclear, biological, and chemical threats, teaching soldiers about mental resilience, flying helicopters, and training foreign security forces. After the military, I explored multiple occupations, including taking care of animals at a zoo, assisting student veterans, administering conservation practices within the agriculture industry, collecting and analyzing samples in an environmental lab, and teaching in a middle school. Though these experiences are vastly different, one thing has always been constant: my love for science! I am fascinated by the natural world, and I care deeply about ensuring my understanding of the way the world works is accurate. To that end, I have always focused on understanding how science works and what good science looks like, especially in comparison to pseudoscience. My goal is to bring that enthusiasm for good science to our shop!
