Your local Bookbar

The Tardigrade’s Bookshelf is a bookbar with a sober-ish drink menu that fosters a literary atmosphere. We specialize in low alcohol content drinks, with a wide array of nonalcoholic choices. Our bookshelves host a science-minded collection.

While our in-store collection is science-focused, our bookclubs explore a variety of genres. These are no-pressure, reader-driven groups where you can enjoy great discussions in a relaxed setting. Join us and connect with fellow book lovers! Please sign up for the bookclub email list if you would like to receive bookclub reminders and updates. Want to have your personal bookclub here? We can help your group out too!

Only Friends Bookclub Monthly Review

Missed bookclub and feeling the FOMO? Schedule didn’t work? This one-time roundup gives you the highlights without the time commitment, plus the honest takes you won’t get from publisher blurbs.

Inside the every issue:

  • Reviews of every book we read in bookclub this month (clear, spoiler-light, genuinely useful)

  • Curated “read next” picks matched by theme, tone, and reading style—selected by a librarian, not an algorithm

  • Local reader feedback from our actual discussions: standout quotes, hot takes, and what sparked the best conversation

  • Links for every book to purchase on Bookshop.org and support our local bookbar

What to Expect at our Bookbar:

At our bookbar, we’ve created a cozy social environment for people who don’t enjoy the typical bar scene. We’re proud to be neurodiverse-friendly and have designed the space with comfort and accessibility in mind.

What does that mean?. . . .

You won’t find loud TVs with sports playing here (go down to the sports bar, bruh)—just comfortably spaced seating, low-volume music that allows for easy conversation, and single stall restrooms. Our walls are lined with bookshelves, adding a soothing visual backdrop that invites you to relax and feel at home.

We also provide chargers, fidgets, and games throughout the space for your convenience and enjoyment. Many of our staff are neurodiverse themselves, we value empathy, understanding, and responsible drinking in everything we do.
